Violent waters surround The Rock, to get out there one would have to take a boat during calmer waters, and risk losing the boat when things go back to being violent. Due to the risk of being trapped for so long without proper provisions the lighthouse was abandoned September 10, 1957. No human could have died and risen there with the infection, so it is a known safe haven. Someone may even be able to get the lighthouse back into working order and flag down a rescue ship.... if one was to come along.
